2021 has been one of the most tiring and draining years of the twentieth century. At least from my perspective as a new student in an environment being plagued by the deadly covid. Being inside for that long definitely took its toll on me and many others, making even the most minute details aggravating.
I think that’s why this year’s New Year’s Eve celebration was quiet in comparison to others. This time of the year is normally the excuse for the student to splash way too much money on getting completely wasted and partying to de-stress before returning to university to deal with the looming threat of deadlines on the horizon. However, instead of that, the evening ended up being consumed by my friend’s sister playing brain training games on the Nintendo switch.
I suppose that sums up the insanity of the year and the effect of the lockdown on most people by the end of 2021. Everything that we did was so forgettable but the year itself was memorable for that exact reason. The last few months were incredibly important to me especially due to finally becoming an adult. The independence that comes with being a student lead to me breaking out of my shell and making new friends in this great and new environment. Something I definitely didn’t count on.
So to everyone disappointed in the last twelve month experience, take it from me, we’re all disappointed in the cesspool of boring and forgettable memories. But take solace in knowing that after lockdown I and hopefully you took that breath of fresh air. In all This I hope other students like me, who were waiting for a chance for human interaction other than family, escape to parties and friends to let loose.
Thanks for reading, I know that the year has been exhausting but I want to know what you did for the new years celebrations, was it as interesting as mine? Or did you celebrate till the sun came up? Comment down below and I’ll do my best to respond.
